What is Tang Soo Do?
Tang Soo Do is a Korean martial art which teaches empty hand and foot fighting techniques. Fighting forms, self-defense and weapons are an integral part of our training. Tang Soo Do is a traditional martial art in the sense that we are not sport oriented, rather our purpose is self-defense, health and to become a better person through training.
What is the World Tang Soo Do Association?
The WTSDA is truly a world organization, currently with more than 500 member studios and over 100,000 members in 36 countries. The WTSDA is divided into 21 regions. Our region (Region 6) is comprised of Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and western Tennessee. Region 6 is under the direction of Master Danny Dunn. The WTSDA headquarters is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and is headed by its founder Grandmaster Jae C. Shin. The WTSDA provides support for the individual studios, maintains records, promotes standardized training, provides leadership and upholds a high standard of excellence for all of Tang Soo Do.
What is Young Tang Soo Do?
Young Tang Soo Do is a Certified Member Studio of the WTSDA. Young Tang Soo Do currently serves communities in three locations: Huntville, Florence, and Russellville, Alabama. The chief instructor conducting classes at the Huntsville YMCA location is Mr. Young; Becky Ogletree, Kevin Mullins, Josiah Mullins, and Brandi Sharp are at the Florence location; while Mr. Jones conducts at the Russellville school. Classes at Young Tang Soo Do include the formal WTSDA curriculum as well as street self-defense, chokes, throws, strikes, pressure points and joint locking techniques.
